Most projects involve managing across functional areas and geographies. We do this all the time.

Some functional areas such as Operations and IT are, by their nature, analytic and methodical. Players from these areas may need to be coordinated but require little hand-holding to execute a project. Other areas are not naturally project-savvy. HR and Sales, for example. These areas may need more support and direction. Similarly, projects dealing with departments across cultures usually require special attention and sensitivity to differences which can make or break a project's success.
